Homework in first grade provides: -an opportunity for children to develop at-home study skills -reinforcement for content learned in school -an important home-school connection.
You can help by: -choosing a consistent time and place for homework. -doing the homework with, but not for, your child. -giving praise for both outcomes and efforts.
Look for the many regular moments that are filled with learning for children. -Play card and board games. -Go to the library and read to your children each day. -Encourage them to create their own stories and books. -Let them help make the grocery list and count change at the store.
**Don’t forget to allow children plenty of unscheduled free time for imaginative play. This is when children learn to be creative thinkers and practice real life social skills!
